Our Bellevue, Our Culture: Jade Dragon Dances

Writer's picture: Interlake C.C.C.Interlake C.C.C.

“Our project’s theme was to create a mural that represents our cultural backgrounds, so I decided to illustrate a dragon from the dragon dances performed in Chinese New Year festivals. Although the dragons are usually red and yellow, I added green so it would be reminiscent of the jade everyone in my family wears. As a mixed kid, it can be hard to feel connected to your cultural heritage, but it’s through small things like this that help me feel like I belong.”
