“Korean music is something I cherish. I remember going to Korean school, and at the live shows, there would be Korean drummer girls pounding the drums, posing with confidence while creating heavy bass. Known as the buk, I wanted to showcase my feelings towards this musical style, but in a modernized medium. I painted the Korean drummer girl in black and white to contrast with the tan setting, showcasing her bold posture and comfort in her own skin. I also incorporate traditional Korean cloud patterns, the wind, water splashes, and others to show how music and nature can coexist.”
