Experience Bellevue: “Altar” Acrylic and Traditional Mexican Food Ceramic Pieces

Updated: Oct 9, 2022

The canvas painting placed in the background of the station was inspired by the up-close of an ofrenda, in which we can see some of the basis found in this traditional celebration. Such as the sugar skull or “calaverite de azucar” which is placed for each loved one that isn’t with us anymore. Or the flowers not only in the back but also around the skull that are cempasuchil in different colors, that is placed to lead the spirits. All of the elements are placed above “papel de Muertos” which is the decorative paper used to cover the table in which normally the elements are placed. Using Acrylic, the artist was able to implement traditional techniques on the craft such as the glass in the candles.

Both of these complementary elements are to give a sense of dimension to the whole. In the “platos de barro” or plates made from clay (ceramic), marzipan is placed, which is type of candy used to simulate fruit in mini version. On the other plate un pan de Muertos which is characteristic of this day.

Handcrafted by Arantxa Mata Jaime, with quality and sharpness
