Flag of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (The Sun-Sea-Sand Banner)

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

Trinidad and Tobago is a dual-island Caribbean nation near Venezuela, and its flag was adopted upon independence from the United Kingdom in 1962. The color red in the flag represents fire and its warmth further symbolizes the vitality of the land and its people; the black represents courage from the dedication and strength of the unified people; finally, the white represents water and the sea that the territory is bound. The flag of Trinidad and Tobago was chosen by the independence committee of 1962 and stands as a strong national flag representing the syncretism of African and Indian cultures.
