Gond Painting Tribal Folk Art

Gond painting is a form of painting from folk and tribal art that is practiced by one of the largest tribes in India with whom it shares its name. Gond Paintings are a culturally significant art technique from the Gond tribe of central India. They help preserve and communicate traditional culture.

They can best be described as ‘on line work', as the artist draws the inner as well as outer lines with as much care as possible, in order to perfect the shape and create a compelling folk art piece. Lines are used in such a way that conveys a sense of movement to the still images, and patterns such as dots and dashes are added to intensify the sense of movement and increase the amount of detail. The paintings also are known for its bright, vivid colors, such as white, red, blue and yellow, and they are usually derived naturally from objects such as charcoal, colored soil, plant sap, leaves and even cow dung.

Gond Painting

Made using traditional markers and natural colors. Drew a camel and a cow as the key motifs. Drew birds around it and mixes branches and leaves to create a natural setting. Drawn with precision and with the intention of communicating cultural motifs.
