Hmong Poj Dab

In Hmong culture, Poj Dab is meant to be a Hmong evil spirit who returns for a purpose that has not been fulfilled. Serving as 'guardian angels,' their duty it is to protect the younger generation as they mature by exposing them to significant values to follow.

Many believe in the practice by shamans of important traditional rituals, such as marriage rites (kab tshoob kev kos), "soul calling" (hu plig), healing rites (ua neeb or khaw koob), worshipping the "house spirit" (teev xwm kab), and funeral rites (kev ploj tuag). Usually through the recital of dark tales that provide symbolic meaning, it bears upon the origins of Hmong cultural tradition and timeless social values. Such rituals provide a huge contribution to the understanding of Chinese culture and their relation to Dab Neeg ("Folk Legends").
