Experience Bellevue: Indian Ganesh, Door Décor, and Rangolis

The Illustration on the orange craft is of a Ganesh, who is known in Hinduism as the remover of obstacles. He is worshipped before starting new things, such as marriage, a new job, and moving to a new city, as it is considered auspicious. Safran is the color of bravery and it further represents the bravery of undertaking something new.


For the long strings with colorful paper, they are examples of a common decorations found on the front doors of Hindu houses. The letters written in Sanskrit read “shoob laab” where “shoob” means auspicious and “laab” means gains.


The 3 plates are constructed to be colorful rangolis, which are frequently displayed on the entrance of one's house as welcome to guests and auspicious spirits. It is also used in special festive occasions as a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
