Paper lanterns are traditionally made using bright colors and are commonly used as a festive decoration in festivals in many different countries. In China, the Lantern Festival marks the end of the Chinese New Year where flying lanterns are lit and children carry paper lanterns of their own creation. Traditionally, the color red represents wealth, fame, success, and prosperity, which is why red is a popular color in decorations and outfits. With the values of vitality, social status, and luck, they are traditionally framed with a metal wire or bamboo strips and then covered with paper, silk, or gauze, and are released to light the way for all guest, including the souls of the ancestors.
