This artwork is inspired by the Madhubani drawing style. This style is commonly practiced in India and Nepal. It often is used to draw Indian gods and animals such as elephants or birds. They are often drawn with twigs, matchsticks, and even fingers. They often incorporate vibrant colors to make them stand out. In this artwork, four birds are depicted in this style on tree branches and vines. They are drawn with markers and Sharpie to create sharper angles and highlight the simplicity of the art style, as well as to create a more modern take on this art style and to interpret it as my own. It also incorporates texture in the birds’ wings to emphasize the difference between them. This picture represents the importance of Indian birds in religion and specifically highlights peacocks, seen through the patterned tail of many of the birds.
