Our Bellevue, Our Culture: Chinese New Year

Writer's picture: Interlake C.C.C.Interlake C.C.C.

“This piece is a more modern take on Chinese traditional paintings. It combines some of the most well-known symbols in Chinese culture, such as the moon, the crane, and plum blossoms. Many holidays and folk stories center around the full moon. People believe that the roundness of the moon creates a sense of unity with family, even if they live far away. The crane can be found on red envelopes during the New Year, symbolizing grace and harmony. Plum blossoms bloom even in the coldest winters, which is why Chinese painters use it to represent resilience.”
