Our Bellevue, Our Culture: Washington in America

“Whenever someone asks me what my culture is, my first reaction is to joke that I hardly have any at all. But when I really think about why that is so, I realize that it is because people in my family rarely stay in the same place long enough to develop a deep culture tied to that place. The theme of my panel is how transitory my family’s culture is, how my ancestors have always begun their lives in new places--and I inevitably will too. But despite this, many aspects of greater American culture and of Washington, where I have spent my life so far, have made a great impact on my life.”
