Experience Bellevue: Traditional Handmade Rajasthani Strings and Diya Candle

Updated: Oct 9, 2022

The crafts around are decorations that are meant to be hung on doors of many Indian households, in order to evoke a richer architectural design/appearance. They, however, can be used to decorate festivals and opulent palaces for an elegant interior. Holi is an example of a holiday where Rajasthani is commonly used, and it is a vibrant celebration that involves dancing, singing, and playful throwing of colored powders and water at revelers. The Hindu festival celebrates spring, love, and a new life, and the ceremony is very colorful, which makes Rajasthani special in increasing aesthetic appeal.

The middle shows a candle that is used for Diwali, also known as the Festival of Light. It is celebrated and symbolizes the victory of good over evil, believing strongly in light of higher knowledge being able to dispel all ignorance and negativity. Candles are commonly used as a traditional light source to commemorate the legend of the return of god Rama to his kingdom. In this craft, I used homemade materials, such as pearls, wax candles, and others to represent the enlightenment, prosperity, good luck, and power of the presence of light in overcoming the existence of evil forces.
