Traditional Hindi Matkas ("earthen pot"/ मटका)

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

Deeply rooted in Indian culture, matkas are prominent in Indian kitchens, purposed to store and cool water. These pots are also used to store ice cream and yoghurt and are popularly sold in festivals. Matkas are made by shaping clay and then firing it in a kiln to create a glazed look. The final pots are then painted with various colors to create unique patterns and designs.
