Traditional Ojibwe Native American Dreamcatcher

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

Originally believed to be created by the Ojibwa Chippewa Native American tribe, dreamcatchers are made from a small wooden hoop covered in a patterned net of natural fibers. There are also items like feathers and beads attached and hanging down from the hoop's bottom. Ojibwe dreamcatchers were traditionally used to protect sleeping people from bad dreams and nightmares. It is believed that the night air is filled with dreams, so when hanging the dreamcatcher above the bed, dream catchers catch dreams in its net. The good dreams pass through, while the bad dreams are caught and later destroyed, burned from the morning sunlight.

Homemade Ojibwe Dreamcatcher

Created a homemade dream catcher using a colored cardboard hoop and making intricate string patterns along the hoop. Also added three large feathers and shiny rocks as beads. Handcrafted by Andrew Lee.
